Activist Poster

Created in Adobe Illustrator

Target Audience:
Men and women ages 18 and up, those in support of legalization of medical and recreational marijuana, and Houstonians looking for change in the state of Texas.

Process:
This project is for a non-profit organization and to stand as a social activist poster using only type. The type was to be expressive and was to include at least one quote, I chose to use the pot leaf, and three quotes from various celebrities; I chose Jimmy Hendrix, George Washington, and Robin Williams. All three were great men in our country from different background and time periods, thus covering a long history with the struggle and support of the legalization of marijuana. I chose Texas NORML the “National Organization for Reformation of Marijuana Legislation.” this choice pushes the boundaries of traditionally taboo subjects. Using Adobe Illustrator I took Myriad roman and turned it to outlines, that allowed me to adjust and maneuver the text. The names of the authors are done in Baskerville. I used a light green, to create the plant, and made the color of the quote text the same. For the name of the organization “Texas NORML” I used an orange similar to the University of Texas orange, a color well known through out the state. The organization name is also distorted to form a pot for the leaf to sit in. On the bottom of the pot, written in standard color text is the mission statement for Texas NORML and includes a call to action.
